The Man

A Song by Adrian Young

On March 8, 2016, it was announced that Sir George Martin, one of the most successful and influential music producers in history, had passed away, aged 90.

Martin lived an incredible life, and will always be remembered as the man who said 'yes' to the Beatles. He was always considered a kind, gentle soul, and was respected all over the world for his work within the music industry.

‘The Man’ was written on the day of Sir George’s passing, and is my telling of when he and John, Paul, George and Ringo first worked with one another.

Met up in an old beaten room with a light on

Set up the band and the man asked the boys 'What’s your best song?'

Melodies played in the air and the man said 'It’s okay,

It’s not your best, but you won’t regret coming my way'

He said…

'Sing me a song, take the whole world on, let ‘em see

I can’t be wrong, this is where you belong, with me

Show ‘em what you’ve got, take it to the top, and away

This is your life, your choice, your whole decade'

So it begins, hear the songs, let ‘em ring in your ears

The boys, they will sing for so long

They’ll reduce you to tears

On the lanes, in the planes Down the Abbey, oh darling, get back, my dear

Going insane to sustain all the happiness, all these years

He said…

'Sing me a song, take the whole world on, let ‘em see

I can’t be wrong, this is where you belong, with me

Show ‘em what you’ve got, take it to the top, and away

This is your life, your choice, your whole decade'
